Teenage pregnancy

Teenage pregnancy becoming the new normal in Teshie Maamli

We all know teenage pregnancy is a cancar the government and other organizations are trying to curb  but the youth in Teshie have  normalize this act.

In Teshie Maamli teenage pregnancy rate has increased abnormally especially within the age group of 11 to 19 as it bears no shame on the  teenage girl compared to cases of teenage pregnancy in the past.

Speaking to Linda  Korsah who works at the  Teshie community clinic as a nurse she says the cases they get has shot up to 80% with girls as little as 11 pregnant.

"hmm, I am 23 and I have been called barren by a 15 year old girl because she has given birth to two and I didn't have a child yet, here it seems teenage pregnancy has become a norm oo."says Naa Akweley

Naa oboshi says that teenage pregnancy has become something normal now, parents do not scold their children about teenage pregnancy anymore here like before, here they just drop out of school when they get pregnant start smoking and selling fish or selling petty stuff to feed and keepup.

"Now teenages take pride in how many kids they have, you can get two or three girls having kids for one teenage boy or man."says Naa Tsotso

Teenage pregnancy is not supposed to be normal but it's a different story in Teshie Maamli.
